Ahead of the 2024 Political Year, BPR Mitra Bali Muktijaya Mandiri Remains Stable, Affected Only by Low Shallot Prices
Bangli – Ahead of the 2024 political year, the financial industry in Bali, particularly Rural Bank (Bank Perekonomian Rakyat/BPR) Mitra Bali Muktijaya Mandiri in Bangli Regency, remains relatively stable. What has had an impact instead is the falling price of shallots at the farmer level. Shallot prices in Bali, especially in Songan Village, Kintamani, have plunged to a low of IDR 6,000 per kilogram.
When met by Newsyess on Friday (September 29, 2023) at the BPR office on Jalan Raya Kayuambua, Bangli, the Director of PT BPR Mitra Bali Muktijaya Mandiri, I Made Mujana, S.E., stated that the bank’s condition is stable. “We serve a different market segment, mainly the lower-middle class,” he said.
According to him, politics currently has no impact on BPR Mitra Bali Muktijaya Mandiri. What is still being felt is the impact of shallot prices falling to IDR 6,000. “Borrowers should have been able to pay their installments, but payments have been delayed. This applies specifically to borrowers involved in shallot farming. Otherwise, there are no problems,” he said.
The Songan area of Bangli has been affected by the drop in shallot prices. However, the number of customers who supply shallots is not large. “The impact is that they are complaining about the price slump,” he said.
These farmers have no other source of income when prices collapse. “They have been focusing solely on shallots, so they have been directly affected,” he explained.
He hopes the government can provide a solution to help market the shallot harvest. Currently, BPR Mitra Bali Muktijaya Mandiri is showing positive progress in line with the post-Covid-19 economic recovery. “Things are returning to normal, and payments are back to normal,” he said.
He encouraged the public not to rely on a single commodity. “If possible, diversify, for example, with shallots and chili, so that if one drops, the other can provide support. Hopefully, prices will rise in October. We are optimistic that we will grow compared to last year,” he concluded.
